Achieving a better work-life balance, discovering another culture and experiencing a different way of life. That’s what brought us to Samara, an authentic pacific beach town, in April 2018.
Before moving here, Léa, my friend since university, was living in San José, the capital of Costa Rica. She was, and she is still, correspondent for several French radio stations, covering the news in Central America. I was also living in America, but in the United States, reporting the news of Silicon Valley in San Francisco, for a French newspaper.
As independent journalists, we both experienced the way of working alone, from home. When we moved to Samara, we rapidly felt the need to find a place with a good environment to work efficiently and a community that shares ideas and creates synergy.
I remember Lea trying to record a radio report, hidden under her blanket trying to mute the sound of the rain falling loudly on the steel roof. One day, I also ended up writing an article, sitting in the middle of the garden under the blazing hot sun, trying to catch the internet connection of a neighbor because mine had crashed.
As the months passed by with low and unstable internet, the heat affecting our productivity and the lack of networking opportunities, we started meeting local freelancers, entrepreneurs and digital nomads facing the same issues in this little paradise. So… we decided to create LoCoworking, a place that solves all these problems. A quiet and inspiring space which allows you to get your work done whilst still being a 3 minute walk from one the most beautiful beaches in Costa Rica.
