The Digital Nomad may be granted to remote workers or service providers who provide remunerated services remotely, using computer and/or telecommunication or analog tools in favor of another person or business outside the country, who claim to enter and stay in the country as non-residents.
Eligibility:
The eligibility requirements established by law are currently as follows:
Intended for people coming to the country to work remotely.
A minimum income of US$3,000 is required for the principal applicant (US$4,000 for family groups).
Most have a medical insurance policy covering the applicant and family members (if applicable) throughout the stay.
Benefits:
The following benefits will only apply during the period that applicants have a valid Digital Nomad status (from approval until expiration) :
Awarded for one year and renewable for one additional year only. A minimum stay of 180 days in country will be required to renew.
Basic personal computers or other equipment needed to provide remote services are exempt from import taxes.
Access to local banking services.
Access to local driver’s license.
100% exemption from utility and income taxes.
Digital nomads will not be considered Costa Rican tax residents.
Documentation required for the principal.
An international medical insurance policy that covers the applicant and his/her dependents for the entire authorized period of stay, with a minimum coverage of USD 50,000 per person.
Proven salaries in the last year of USD 3,000 for individuals or USD 4,000 for family groups, which must be demonstrated by the following:
Bank statements for the past 12 months with a sworn statement regarding the origin of these funds, or
Income certificate issued by a certified public accountant (if obtained outside of Costa Rica, this certificate must be submitted to the Apostille process).
Documents required for economic dependents.
Your family may be included as dependents of your family.
Be aware that the primary applicant (you) will need to comply with a proof of salary of 4,000 USD, as you are including family with or without children.
IMPORTANT notes:
No apostille is required for the documents.
Translations are required.
